The Department of Human Ecology invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Teaching. Professors of Teaching are Academic Senate faculty members whose expertise and responsibilities center on undergraduate education and scholarly analysis of teaching methods. The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching lower/upper division undergraduate courses, as well as an occasional graduate level course. They will be expected to play a leadership role in the scholarship of teaching and learning, working with other faculty to develop, implement and assess pedagogical initiatives.

Qualified applicants must have a terminal degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in landscape architecture, urban planning/design, architecture, or allied fields. The appointee will carry out high level and innovative teaching in Landscape Architecture and Sustainable Urban Design/Planning with a focus on professional and teaching experience in the areas of design, design communications and sustainability.

This faculty appointment is anticipated to commence in Fall 2025, and includes teaching, research, and services responsibilities primarily allied with SSA’s Graduate Landscape Architecture Program. Restoration Design Group Opening

RDG is seeking a self-motivated individual interested in creek restoration with the ability to draft construction documents in AutoCAD, produce graphic materials, and conduct occasional outdoor field work. The candidate will likely have 0-5 years’ relevant professional experience in landscape architecture. The position will be based in RDG’s West Berkeley office.

Responsibilities: This position will support RDG’s efforts to bring projects from conceptual design to construction documentation, construction, and post-project monitoring. Landscape Architect 1

This is entry level professional landscape architectural work performed in the office and/or field in connection with the design, construction, and inspection of parks and related facilities. Assignments are received from the Park Planning and Development Manager who defines the scope of the work, reviews work in progress and upon completion. The work is characterized by the application of theoretical professional architectural expertise.

Landscape Architect 2

This is intermediate level professional landscape architectural work performed in the office and/or field in connection with the design, construction, and inspection of parks and related facilities. Assignments are received from the Park Planning and Development Manager who defines the scope of the work, reviews the work in progress and upon completion. The work is characterized by the application of expanded professional architectural expertise encompassing both theoretical concepts and operational considerations gained through directly related experience.

The successful candidate will be placed at the Landscape Architect 1 (starting salary $67,487.84) or Landscape Architect 2 (starting salary $73,199.36) level based upon experience; to be determined at the time of hire depending upon the candidate's relevant work experience and overall qualifications.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepare and implement annual capital budgets, including cost estimates and budget revisions.

Manage capital improvement projects, from planning and permit applications to construction oversight and contract administration.

Lead public engagement efforts, collaborating with neighborhoods and stakeholders on park development plans.

Assist in Development Review processes, update utility mapping, and resolve park-related issues.

Prepare grant applications and reports and conduct research to enhance park operations and amenities.

We are searching for an individual with demonstrated experience (6+ years) in built work, including developing construction documents and participating in construction administration. A technical understanding for current construction methods and detailing are important, as is an understanding of project processes and management from concept to construction. The position requires proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Rhino (or another 3D modeling software). Experience with Revit is a bonus.

Watershed Progressive is hiring a Landscape Designer to join our team! As a Landscape Designer at Watershed Progressive, you will play a crucial role in advancing our mission of “connecting communities with their watersheds through integrated strategies for a healthy, resilient future” through your skills, expertise, and contribution to a dynamic team. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks related to sustainable landscape design including CAD drafting, grading plans, planting plans, renderings, landscape design plans, sections and perspective drawings, graphic design for public engagement material on landscape, ecology, and water conservation. Additional tasks may include infographics, fliers, educational signage design, and websites; multimedia presentations; graphic formatting for report documents; website and social media management; and translating technical information into graphic formats. Your work will contribute to the development and implementation of projects that engage communities in building local climate resilience. The ideal candidate has:

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Visual Communication Design, or a related field;

  • AutoCAD software high proficiency plus experience using Land-FX;

  • Stormwater BMP/landscape grading;

  • Knowledge of California native plants and plant ecology;

  • Planting design/planting plan drafting;

  • Can interpret creative direction and adapt points from creative briefs into persuasive communication concepts;

  • Advanced skills in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign;

  • Excellent, professional, oral, & written communication skills;

  • Familiarity with conveying ecological design concepts;

  • Proven experience producing compelling and effective visuals; and

  • Ability to be self-motivated working remotely or within teams.

Any of these additional skills and experience are a plus:

  • Experience with nature-based design, Low Impact Design (LID) and holistic design approaches;

  • Excellent social media skills and experience developing social media outreach strategies;

  • Website design/development/administration experience;

  • Strong skills in graphic design, website design, social media management, public outreach strategies;

  • Sketchup, Rhino, or other 3D rendering software experience;

  • ArcView GIS software skills;

  • Ability to manage projects and lead teams;

  • Experience with public outreach;

  • Experience with animation software; and

  • Ability to project manage, lead and work on multiple projects concurrently.

The Landscape Designer will report to the Design Hub Manager and work closely with other multidisciplinary staff including the Environmental Design Director, the Creative Development and Communications Manager; and will be expected to coordinate team members on project-based tasks.

PAY: $50,000 - $90,000 Annually commensurate with experience
